Lava River Cave

4.50 out of 5

Lava River Cave is 5,211 feet long and is the longest continuous lave tube cave in Oregon. (There is also a separate secondary section running 1,560 feet in the other direction). It is a part of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument and is managed by the USFS.

Due to water action over time, sand has been washed into the downhill end of the cave, plugging it up. As a result, no one knows how far the cave goes in that direction.

Guided tours are given in this cave on a regular basis.
