The mid-western state of Ohio (OH) offers a diverse range of camping from the shores of Lake Erie to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Ohio camping has a little something for everyone.
Northern Ohio camping is defined by over 300 miles of Lake Erie shoreline. Lake camping abounds along this Great Lake with plenty of water sports like boating, canoeing, swimming, and fishing. The central lowlands also stretch into Northern Ohio providing secluded open fields and campfires under the stars. The Black Swamp is nearby as well, providing camping and hiking trails within vast swamps and marshes.
Southern Ohio has plenty to offer campers as well with the riverside campsites along the Ohio River. Campers can enjoy the scenic beauty of this river rushing along while camping in a private open field, or under the shelter of a wooded tree canopy. The Allegheny Plateau also runs through here and provides campsites within rugged hills and deep forests. Wayne National Forest allows campers to sleep near the Appalachian foothills, and it offers plenty of trails for scenic and secluded day hikes. Ohio offers plenty of family-friendly campgrounds with RV and camper sites as well as basic tent sites. Don't forget to check out cities like Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland for more urban campgrounds.
