With its many State Parks, wide open prairies, and pristine lakes, Kansas (KS) offers hikers endless trails under the open sky.
Located in the midwest, most of Western Kansas is part of the great central plain, which offers trails that meander through wide open prairies. There are also plenty of lakes in the area which feature cool lakeside hiking. Trails follow lakes and provide scenic views of the pristine water systems. Eastern Kansas has more hills and forests to offer hikers, which provides wooded trails under tree canopy.
Paths that follow rivers and supply opportunities for fishing and swimming are popular as well near the Missouri and Kansas Rivers in the northeastern part of the state, and the Arkansas River in the western and southern parts of the state. There are hiking opportunities near I-70 as well, and don't forget to look into trails near cities like Wichita, Kansas City, and Topeka!
