Ohio (OH) offers plenty of hiking trails through a diverse range of terrains, from the shoreline of Lake Erie to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.
Northern Ohio is defined by the many miles of Lake Erie shoreline. Here hikers can explore trails that wind along this Great Lake's shore, and possibly enjoy a quick swim. Northern Ohio also offers hikes in the central lowlands where trails wind through open fields and prairies, and provide the perfect terrain for easy hikes with children. Hikers can also explore the Black Swamp where trails meander through vast swamps and marshes.
This mid-western state also offers plenty of hiking in Southern Ohio along the Ohio River. Hikes follow the river through open plains or wind through the woods under a refreshing tree canopy. The Allegheny Plateau also offers plenty of hiking opportunities where hikers can explore short but steep climbs up rugged hills, or meander through the thick forests. Wayne National Forest holds over 300 miles of trails where hikers can climb paths, both easy and strenuous, and enjoy the pristine forests of the Appalachian foothills. Hikers can even fin trails near cities like Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland!
