We are excited to announce the addition of five new writers to the Tripleblaze Blog Team! These fine folks will be joining our current team, consisting of Julie (mtbikerchick), Sarah (Sarah Hikes), John (JohnH), Jim Hodgson, Jeff Barber, and myself.

I hope you will all join me in welcoming the five new team members!

Matthew Betka

Matthew Betka is a passionate lover of the outdoors, thanks to his childhood spent on the shores of Lake Michigan in a small beach village named Pentwater. Between hiking and kayaking, Matthew has covered the majority of the west coast of Michigan, and a good amount of the Upper Peninsula… and that’s just his journeys in the great Mitten State. In the past year, Matthew has traveled across America three times, which has given him a intimate perspective on the western US as well.

AJ Heil

AJ Heil is a primary trip leader and coordinator for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s outdoor and adventure programs. His passions include leadership development, sharing outdoor experiences, teaching skills, and adventure recreation. His favorite outdoor activities are backpacking and back-country camping, and downhill skiing during the winter. Out of the University of Wisconsin, AJ teaches courses on caving, skiing, and outdoor leadership. He has served as a guide and facilitator for Narrow Way Expeditions of Colorado, a volunteer trip leader for non-profit organizations, the primary coordinator of outdoor living & learning communities, and a Leave No Trace outdoor ethics trainer. From a variety of experiences, AJ holds outdoor certifications with the PCIA, WMA, NOLS, WMI, LNT, and PSIA. In his free time, he is heavily involved in campus ministries with CRU and spends much of his time helping lead a “movement” of hundreds of students — UW-L’s largest student organization. In the near future, AJ will be pursuing a master’s degree in Recreation Management with the goal of a sustained career in adventure recreation management and outdoor programming.

Carrie Klemm

Carrie Klemm hails from lovely West Michigan. She is obsessed with the Great Lakes but her heart belongs to the open road. She enjoys spontaneity, flipping through her atlas without an agenda. Her curiosities have led her to camp and hike all over the country, with a little kayaking on the side. Being in nature, breathing it in, and sleeping under the stars brings her peace of mind.

Jennifer Legler

Jennifer Legler lives in North Georgia and has been a hiker for about 3 years. She began with just day hikes, but she’s now section hiking the Appalachian Trail. Jen has logged over 800 miles in the last 3 years, with over 400 of them being on the AT. Her trail name is the Energizer Bunny. In addition to hiking and backpacking, Jennifer enjoys kayaking.

John McBride

John McBride is a senior at South Dakota State University where I he is finishing his bachelors degree in Nursing. Since he was a kid, John loved spending time outside playing games. Today, John is an enthusiastic, experienced rock climber and has two summers of mountain guiding experience in Colorado. Along with rock climbing, john also loves to hike, camp, mountain bike, and spend time in nature.
