Campground Description

Camping is only allowed at three specified campsites in the Backcountry Area (Wildlife Management Area). The campsites are Slant Rock, Billy's Ford and Hartline Ford. We do not recommend driving passenger cars on the Backcountry Roads due to creek crossings.

Slant Rock is located on Road 01. Turn onto County Road 103 from Highway 35 (1 mile from Little River Falls). Turn Left into the Hunters Check Station parking lot. Follow Road 01 to the first Left turn. This will take you to the campsite. (If you come to the locked gate, you missed your turn). The road is narrow with deep ruts and is steep at times. It is recommended that you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

Billy's Ford is located on Road 04. Turn onto County Road 295 (off Highway 35). Veer Right, go past Edna Hill Church (abandoned church, no windows or doors) turn Right onto Road 05. Follow Road 05, turn Right on Road 04. The campsite is on the left just before you get to the river. It is recommended that you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

Hartline Ford is located on Road 05. Follow the directions above to Billy's Ford. Continue on Road 05, go until the road gets sandy and ends up next to the river. The campsite is on the left up on the sandy embankment. This is the area where Road 03 crosses over and meets Road 05. It is recommended that you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

All campsites have an outhouse (no running water), rock fire ring, picnic table, and a trash can. Any down or dead wood can be used in the campfire. Tents must be on the tent pad.

If the trash cans are full, please take your trash out with you. We work very hard to keep the park clean and safe for all of our visitors. We need your help to keep it that way.

None of the sites have water or electricity.

There is no charge for camping.

Campsites cannot be reserved. The campsites are available on a first come, first served basis, February 1 - September 30.

Each site will only accommodate one group. There is one 10' X 20' tent pad. All tents must be on the tent pad.

This is the only area where camping is allowed in the National Preserve.

Camping is not allowed in the canyon.
