The wilderness, so close to home. This primitive island offers a decent refuge within an hour of the city. It is accessible by boat only, although the river is shallow enough you can typically hike there too. It is public land, but who is going to bust you for sleeping there?
Watch out for some poison ivy on the trees, other then that, the traffic noise is the only other disadvantage. I've been there 3 times now, and love it. It's hardcore camping at its easiest.
