Campground Description

Cave Run Lake is located within the scenic Eastern Highlands region of Kentucky and is almost completely surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest. The 8,270-acre lake is most widely known for its varied outdoor recreation opportunities, excellent fishing and scenic beauty. However, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers constructed the lake and dam project primarily for the purpose of reducing flood damage along the lower Licking River valley. The Corps of Engineers operates and maintains the dam and 3 day-use recreation areas near the dam. The Morehead District of the U.S.D.A. Forest Service has jurisdiction over the numerous remaining recreation areas at the lake.Minor Clark Fish Hatchery, one of the largest state-owned hatcheries in the nation, is located below Cave Run Dam.

I loveeeeee Cave Run. We have been going there for about 4 summers now, and every summer we go about 3 times. I live roughly 2 hours away from Cave Run. The only thing I can complain on is the management. The older man at the entrance is alwayssss VERY rude. The staff at the campgrounds just seems to be in a bad mood.

The lake and the area is great, we've been going there for 20 years. The management that runs Twin Knobbs campgroung are overbearing and inconsiderate. We travel about 3 hrs. to get there and always call ahead to see how full, we are usually told that there is always overflow available, this last time same. We get there and an older gentleman, (turns out to be the managers husband), said they were full, I asked about overflow, he said again we're full. We pulled on through to turn around, a different worker stopped us and asked why we were leaving, I told her. She said they were not full and found us a spot in overflow. I tried to complain and quickly found out the wife, husband and there son run the campground and don't care what you think. I have since talked to several campers and found they have had simular incidents. I hope there will be new management in the near future or I will start driving around the lake, (this is a pain) to a better run facility, (Zilpo).

Best place I've ever camped at. Sites and modern bath houses kept very clean by the hosts in each section. I only gave it a 4 for privacy due to the fact if it's the middle of summer you're always going to have someone's kids nearby. However, the sites themselves are situated a good distance away from each other. I would highly recommend to anyone!
