Ok, yes there is very little privacy here, and very little shade. That said you are surrounded (or the campground) by the ocean, the Merrimack River and the marsh. The price $22 (as of 2012) is a tremendous value. You can spend that in Boston (and more) to simply park. I love the woods and mountains too, but for what it is, it's a great deal. Do note some sites are too close to other sites and it's not the best place to be romantic...and don't even think about coming here to drink some libations, during the busy season the State Police make the rounds and they will toss you out if you are acting up. Oh, and if you hate campers/RV's, this place is very popular with non-tent campers so factor that in. Still I love it and I think most people will too if you are ok being close to your neighbor...something about being so close to the water.

it's a paved parking lot and you are assigned a "spot." it is right on the beach though. i prefer trees and mountains so i was not impressed. there is not a single ounce of privacy.
