Park is open for day use and overnight camping. Honor parking at posted daily rate. Hiking trails, picnic shelters, comfort stations and boat launch.James River State Park is one of the states newest parks. The park offers access to nearly 20 miles of hiking/biking/horseback riding trails. There are restrooms in major day use areas. No water is available in the campgrounds. The primitive aspect of the camping must be considered. But if you like to fish, like a more primitive and less crowded setting, like to canoe or like river activities, make note of this new camping opportunity. While its not for those who bring hair dryers and fans, if you dont mind roughing it, youll love the park.

Enjoyed JRSP and the accessible trails by the campground. The river tubing and floating was very fun as well. Some low spots in the river created a bit of drag but overall was still a great CG to hang out at.

We just got back from staying 1 night at JRSP. A very nice park overall, but we chose the primitive camping because we tent camp and I wanted to be right on the river. Well, we pulled up and yes, its on the river, but you would have to jump down about 15 feet to actually enjoy the river. The worst part was the primitive camping has absolutely no privacy. Its just an open field. The camp fire area is right beside the people camping next to you. We felt VERY clost to everyone else. There is no shade until about 4pm, when the sun goes over the trees lining the river.
The canoe livery was great, and everyone there was very nice. I wish it just had more privacy. Way too open to feel like you can have any privacy with your family.
