Squaw Pass can also be accessed via the 30 Mile Campground area where there are trailheads for Weminuche Pass and Squaw Pass. The beginning of the hike is a fairly gentle grade for about 6 miles. The switchbacks from here to Squaw Lake are doable but seem way longer than the one mile they are supposed to be, and the section from Squaw Lake to the CDT itself is steep! Be warned when traveling in either direction (to the lake from the CDT or the other way). You'll need trekking poles for sure and I wouldn't recommend that route in wet conditions. Beautiful and remote section of the CDT however!
