Description

This is a very large preserve in Pinellas County which also features a really nice environmental and education center. It encompasses 8,700 square acres of land. There are several hiking and equestrian trails. The Pine Needle Path Loop Trail is 4 miles long and hikers will trek through pine flatwoods, cypress swamps, forested wetlands, and even cross a channel of Brooker Creek. This trail is quite challenging and should only be tackled by the serious hiker. This trail may be closed during the summer due to flooding.

Got here later in the afternoon, and didn't have time to finish the loop, but really liked what I saw of it. Herons, turkeys, snakes, armadillo, egrets. Folks at the visitor center tell you which trails are flooded, wet, or relatively dry. I'll be back here more than once!
