Description

This is a very nice Florida Preserve. There are man-made lakes created from mining. The water is crystal clear and you can see the bottom until it drops off. There are trails that go around the lakes and a trail that goes into the swamp where there are freshwater and saltwater marshes, and pine-covered sandhills.
Trail length: 10 miles

We go here often as it's only a couple of miles from our house. Lots of trails, varied habitats and several ponds. (Old quarries?) often see tortoises, frogs, toads, herons, cranes, occasional osprey, once a swallowtail kite. East side can be wet in spots in summer, but takes one through pinewoods, west side more scrubby, and drier. Well worth exploring.

I love this place! We pulled off the road just by chance and had no idea what a gem this place was. It doesn't even look like Florida! The earth had been mined which is what created the beautiful lakes. There are hills and trees and it is just such a beautiful, simple piece of heaven on earth.
