This is a gorgeous trail that traverses a pristine area of national forest in the Cohutta Mountains. The Bear Creek trail follows the tumbling Bear Creek and also passes the Gennett Poplar, one of the largest poplars alive.

Trail has been closed quite a bit due to high creek levels. They recently reopened (I think March '11) it because there were issues with ownership of private property the trail crosses over. If you want to do it, plan on checking with Rangers before heading up, especially if there has been recent heavy rainfall. Sitton's gulch is an awesome trail at Cloudland Canyon too - go on a weekday when no one is around. You can do a bit more "exploring" off the trail. I discovered a rope swing and some nice spots for summer swim/picnic.

Great trail! I mountain biked this trail several times before I decided to go back and hike it. It is a totally different experience on foot. The Gennett Poplar is the second tallest tree in Georgia and is located alongside the trail.
