From Skeenah Gap, the Benton MacKaye runs 5.3 miles along the crest of Wilscot Mountain to another junction with GA Hwy 60. This section is rated "more difficult."
Cool Feature: there's a 270 foot swinging bridge above the Toccoa River along this stretch of trail!
Trail length: 5 miles

In general, the Benton MacKaye is a pretty tough trail. This section is no exception, even if it is only 5 miles. The trail starts off by climbing up the mountain and then following a ridge, then it quickly descends and soon enough it comes upon a river. The trail crosses a suspension bridge and continues on. The river is more crowded than the trail, but it's worth it to stick around. Usually you can see some kayaks or canoes coming down, and sometimes you'll even see them capsize. A little entertainment for the trail.

This section of the Benton MacKaye Trail is one of my favorites. I love to camp on the Toccoa River by the 270 foot long bridge. There is great fishing on the Toccoa. I've caught many brown and rainbow trout there. It can get a little crowded down by the river. The ascent north of the river is a beast.
