Q: Thinking of possibly hiking from Chattahoochee Gap to Neels Gap. Thinking of Jacks Knob Trail... where it crosses State Route 180... how far is it to the A.T. ? -timmer55

This is not a loop trail. It is 2.5 down the mountain and 2.5 right back up. It is a trail located at the base of Brasstown Bald Mountain or you can drive the 3 miles up the mountain and pay a $5.00 and hike down the mountain and back. The top of the mountain trailhead is at the back of the parking lot for Brasstown Bald. The leaves were almost gone so the views were pretty good. It was a canopy type trail. The grades were very steep at points. This area is the highest area in the state of Georgia with elevations at 4700 Feet.
