The East side of the Palisades is one of the best hikes in the Chattahoochee River NRA. Three very scenic shoals along the Hooch (Chattahoochee river), multiple ridges, lots of nature and beautiful hardwoods.

Be sure and get off of the loop and travel to the northern most path along the river. You will be treated to the ruins of a 19th century mill, a small stone bridge and a bamboo forest with huge 30 feet stalks many easily 6 inches in diameter. If you find yourself in the bamboo forest on a windy day you will be treated to a musical rhythm as the large stalk knock together.

One of my favorites so far. Not only was the drive to find the entrance spectacular amongst the multi million dollar home after home but once you got into the park it was like a secret hide away trail that no one knows about. The trail runs along the river with unobstructed views. The pathways were well maintained and there were several beach areas along the hike you could cool down in the river. There was a boat launch available as well. A plus hike in my book.
