Turkey Pen Hollow trail is a delightful and quiet romp in the woods. The trail can be done as either a 7 mile or 5 mile loop. It takes hikers through rolling hills, hardwood forests, a creek (7 mile option), and savannah. A pushed up slab of bedrock several miles in is evidence of the Red Arrow fault line in Camden County. There is a primitive camping area available several miles in and the trail connects to the Devils Kitchen Trail if you want to add another couple of miles. You'll see the occasional deer in the woods, and the usual assorted Missouri wildlife, but not a lot of people. The south facing hills are warm in the winter, but get pretty hot in the summer, and just like everywhere else in Missouri summertime is tick season.
Trail length: 5 miles
