Description

The Franconia Ridge is one of New England's most dramatic hikes. Close

to one third of the route is above treeline, some of it on a steep-sided ridge known as "the

Knife Edge". This hike is also one of the most popular dayhikes in New England, so if

you have the opportunity to visit Franconia Ridge on a non-holiday weekday, you will

be able to focus more on the natural wonder and less on the hundreds of people who

frequent this hike on busy days. Elevation gain: About 2400 feet northbound, 1400 feet

southbound.
Trail length: 8 miles

Falling Water is a strenuous stair-like climb, less experienced hikers may way to take the opposite way up (the name escapes me). The views and fresh air at the top are absolutely worth it, one of my favorite hikes.

It's a bear to get up to the Ridge but once you are there you forget the pain. Simply amazing views.
