Went on a pretty day during the off-season, so the whitewater rapids weren't on (they're man-man fed by the Catawba river). We walked around the rapid areas, and then down to the river, but there are more trails on-site to be hiked. Lots of people there with kids and dogs.
More like a leisurely stroll (at least on the tail we were on) than hiking, but we're both beginners and were breaking in hiking boots. Word is the other trails are much better, and the mountain biking trails are really good.
You can rent Kayaks and Canoes to go on the river, rafts for the rapids, and bikes for the mountain bike trails, plus there are ropes courses and athletic challenges, so there is a lot more to do here than just hike, should the need arise.
Parking cost $5, but just to hike or ride your own bike is free. Anything else you need to buy a day pass for.
