Easy, 2-mile hike that circles the park lake. Boardwalks are present in low areas and the rest of the path is open and wide.

Great opportunities to observe song birds along the wooded portions of the trail, as well as migratory birds in the lake itself.
Trail length: 2 miles

During the summer, the Bike Trail and Loop Road Trail at Sesqui State Park are heavily used. Sandhills Trail is a little less traveled and can afford a little peace and quiet. This was an easy trail and very well maintained. I liked how it got quite remote feeling right away, but I also liked how it swung around the southern end of the park lake where there were park benches and shelters where you can sit and watch the water. Many varieties of turtles are present in the summer and resident Canada Geese can usually be seen any time of the year.
Be sure to check out the double water fall after the Jackson Creek bridge. Very cool!
