Curecanti National Recreation Area is home to Blue Mesa Reservoir and many beautiful campgrounds like Cimarron and Elk Creek. The area is known best for great fishing and boating. There is a beautiful example of geologic rock formations at the sight of Dillon Pinnacles. This is where a variety of rock spires jet out of the ground and stick up into the sky. There is an abundance of flora and fauna. You might spot the endangered Gunnison Sage Grouse. The water is full of boaters in the peak summer season but in the fall, the campgrounds become more secluded. The fishing season carries into winter here, as many locals swap fish stories around ice fishing holes. The nearby town of Gunnison is full of Colorado mountain culture including great outfitting stores and coffee shops. It's an outdoorsman's paradise as there are activities to fill anyone's needs.
