    Campground Activities

Kelly Dahl Campground is situated in a wooded setting adjacent to the Peak-to-Peak National Scenic Byway. The campground provides the visitor with spectacular views of the Continental Divide. The historic mining towns of Nederland, Rollinsville, Central City and Black Hawk are nearby. Limited-stakes gambling is allowed in Central City and Black Hawk. Other historic sites include the Rollins Pass (Moffat Road) abandoned Railroad grade. Four-wheel-drive roads can be found in the Tolland to Apex to Idaho Springs area. Kelly Dahl is the closest Forest Service campground to the city of Boulder. The town of Nederland, with all services available, is located four miles north. Barker Reservoir, just east of Nederland, allows fishing. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times. It is usually among the last of Boulder Ranger District's campgrounds to fill up on weekends; however, reservations are recommended, especially around major holidays.

    Campground Amenities

Picnic tables, fire rings, grills, water, vault toilets and trash services are provided. There are no electrical hook-ups, dump stations or showers. There is a playground suitable for small children.

Camp host was very rude to us. We arrived on a Monday night and the campground was not very full. We choose a spot that had a note saying it was reserved beginning 3 days out. We started unloading some stuff and then I walked to the host to pay. He met me on the way and told me I was camping in the wrong was for reserved only. I thought it was OK since it was not reserved for that night. The walk in area was much more full and not very shady. He yelled at me and my husband for not seeing him first. He seemed very unreasonable and mad. For $19, I'd expect better customer service. These sites aren't cheap and the campground was just OK.

Nice, isolated campground. You have to travel a few miles on dirt roads to get there, but at $5 a night we weren't going to quibble. Outhouse was amazingly clean, but neither of the pumps worked. A nice spring is located about a half mile further up the forest road. The rocks were quite amazing. Rhododendron Thickets cover most, and the rocks go back up the ridgetop for quite a ways. Since it rained heavily while we were there, it was gratifying to note that the camping areas are well drained. Close to a trailhead for the Otter Creek Wilderness, and a longer drive to Seneca Rocks, Canaan Valley, and Blackwater falls.

This is a great spot to do a variety of outdoor activities. The non-reserveable spots fill up quickly. Great place for families and small groups.
