There are three trailheads that service the Stratton Open Space: 1) La Veta Way off Cresta Rd; 2) Ridgeway off W. Cheyenne Blvd. and 3) trailhead on north side of road about .3 miles up the road from the main park gate by the Starsmore Discovery Center.

Most of the trails within the Stratton Open Space are easy to moderate in difficulty and offer "loops" that allow users to enjoy the Open Space. Keep in mind that all trails designated as "paths" are for hiking only; equestrians and cyclists may use all of the other loops.

Stratton Open Space is a really cool hiking/mountain biking area. Although smaller, it's very similar to Palmer Park in that its trails intersect at various points so that you can pretty much create your own adventure as you go. It's not terribly challenging: with the exception of Gold Camp Path, all trails are rated either Easy or Moderate. Still, there are roughly eight miles of trails to explore, and many offer some decent climbing opportunities and a few technical spots. All in all, it's a pretty fun place to hike and take in some nature. A word of warning: use caution if you hike The Chutes. It's very popular with mountain bikers, because it's really fun. There are lots of curves, some of them blind. As someone who has both hiked and mountain biked it, it can get pretty scary for both parties on those curves!
